Dear Supporters,
This is your reminder that tonight is a critical opportunity to make your voice heard in the fight against the Laurel Hill Parkway and the Highway 41 “Road to Compromise.”
Town Council Meeting Details
🗓 Tonight – Tuesday, July 8th
⏰ 6:00 PM (arrive early to sign up to speak)
📍 Mount Pleasant Town Hall, 100 Ann Edwards Ln, Mt Pleasant, SC 29464
**Even if you do not plan to speak, your presence to show support for the resolution would be impactful. Representatives from Smart Growth 41 will be in attendance handing out stickers to show our unity in opposition to the Laurel Hill Parkway. Please find us as you arrive to wear one in the audience, regardless of how else you may want to participate at the Town Council meeting**
Why Attend?
The Mount Pleasant Town Council will vote on a resolution formally expressing the Town’s disapproval of the Laurel Hill Parkway. Passing this resolution could:
✅ Delay or prevent the County from building the Parkway, since part of the land needed is owned by the Town.
✅ Influence the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (DES) to deny its state permit, which would effectively halt the project.
Public Comment Tips
⚠️ If you plan to speak, arrive early to sign up – the sign-up sheet typically closes before the meeting starts.
Here are sample talking points you can use or adapt in your own words:
🔹 “I urge the Town Council to pass this resolution opposing the Laurel Hill Parkway. This road would destroy natural and historic resources in Laurel Hill County Park and harm surrounding neighborhoods.”
🔹 “The Parkway is unnecessary and will not solve Highway 41’s traffic problems in a sustainable way.”
🔹 “Charleston County has already begun trying to acquire right-of-way for this project, including land owned by the Town. By opposing the Parkway, the Town can prevent an irreversible mistake.”
🔹 Laurel Hill Park is a community resource and a historic site. Once this land is paved over, it can never be restored”
🔹 “Please stand with residents and protect Mount Pleasant from this harmful and unneeded project.”
